Unsettled Weather Ahead: Quiet Tuesday Followed by Snow and Ice on Wednesday
Snow and ice accumulations could make the Wednesday evening commute difficult. This morning, cloudy skies with seasonably chilly temperatures greeted Central Indiana residents.
While parts of the state are under a winter weather advisory for the potential of some accumulating snow, most areas will remain cloudy with a few light snow showers or flurries and highs topping out into the upper 30s and lower 40s this afternoon.
This evening, cloudy conditions with seasonably chilly temperatures are expected, with lows dipping to the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight.
Another significant system will target the state on Wednesday. Snow will line up in northern and northwestern parts of the state, while freezing rain is likely along the I-70 corridor. Stay rain is forecasted for the southern third of the state.
The peak of the system with the highest rates of precipitation will come during the late afternoon and early evening hours, when traveling across the entire state could be impacted by significant travel concerns.
In northwest Indiana, up to 4 inches of snowfall is possible, while along the I-70 and I-69 corridors, up to 0.2 inches of ice could accumulate.
Thursday will likely see precipitation move out during the overnight hours, with some very light snow showers through daybreak. Otherwise, temperatures will be chilly, with highs into the upper 20s.
The extended forecast remains active, with a quiet Friday expected and another potent system moving in to start the weekend. Saturday could bring rain or snow across the state, while Sunday and early next week are expected to turn much colder, with highs only into the low to mid 20s and overnight lows into the upper single digits and lower teens.
