Big Retail Sales Ahead: Amazon and Walmart Launch Extended Discounts
Amazon and Walmart are launching extended discounts, with Amazon's Prime Day running four days (July 8 through July 11) and Walmart's Deals event spanning six days from July 8 to July 13.
"These brands are both under $10 right now, they are both on rollback," said Walmart's Matt Goans, holding up two pairs of headphones as an example of their electronic deals.
While Amazon requires shoppers to be Prime members to take advantage of the sale, Walmart's Deals event is open to all shoppers. Additionally, Walmart+ members will get access to the sale a day early, with the option to host the sale both in stores and online for the first time this year.
"The big box stores you can usually do buy online, pick up in store, which is great," said Samantha Gordon, Deals Editor with Consumer Reports. "You can get same-day pickup in a lot of cases."
Gordon advises shoppers to pay attention to who they're buying from, as third-party sellers may set their own prices, shipping, and return policies.
Another big difference is that Amazon's deals change hourly, so shoppers need to check back frequently to find new sales. Walmart's sale, on the other hand, has traditional pricing with no surprise changes.
"You just never know. Today you might be here and it's one price, tomorrow they'll roll it back," said shopper Ty Levitt, looking forward to checking out both Prime Day and Walmart's deals all week.
