Duke Energy Workers on Strike
Duke Energy workers are on strike after contract negotiations stalled, according to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1393. The union announced an "imminent work stoppage" that will affect nearly 1,000 members who maintain the company's electrical infrastructure, including power generation plants.
The main sticking points in the negotiations are wage increases and rising health insurance costs. Union members have been working under an expired contract since May 1.
“Our goal during negotiations is to achieve a mutually favorable labor agreement with the IBEW that provides fair compensation, competitive benefits and a safe work environment,” said Duke Energy in a statement.
