Adam Driver Returns Home to Alma Mater for Talk with Students
Indiana native and Oscar nominee Adam Driver returned to his roots to talk with students about the arts. Growing up in Mishawaka, Indiana, Driver is no stranger to the area.
"I was a bit of an outsider when I was younger," Driver said during a 45-minute visit with students at Robinson Community Learning Center in South Bend. "But theater became my way to connect with people and find my voice."
Driver, who played Kylo Ren in the Star Wars franchise, visited the youth theater program at Robinson Community Learning Center, where students in grades 3-12 performed readings from Shakespeare's Hamlet. He also shared his own experiences introducing acting as a teenager at Mishawaka High School.
Notre Dame arranged for Driver to meet privately with veteran students and headlined a panel discussion in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on campus. Additionally, he stopped by his alma mater, Mishawaka High School, to talk to drama students.
In a nod to his local roots, Driver even dropped in at Pirate's Cove in Mishawaka, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.
