Cassie's Lawyer Stands Firm Against Sean 'Diddy' Combs
A lawyer for singer Cassie Ventura has spoken out following the acquittal of her ex-boyfriend Sean "Diddy" Combs on most serious charges in his sexual misconduct trial. Doug Wigdor, Ventura's lawyer, said that while Combs was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges, Ventura's civil lawsuit against him "paved the way" for a jury to find him guilty of lesser charges related to prostitution.
“This entire criminal process started when our client Cassie Ventura had the courage to file her civil complaint in November 2023," Wigdor said. "Although the jury did not find Combs guilty of sex trafficking Cassie beyond a reasonable doubt, she paved the way for a jury to find him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution."
Ventura's civil lawsuit against Combs was filed in 2023 and accused him of a decade of abuse. Her lawyer praised her "exemplary courage" that "brought attention to the realities of powerful men in our orbit and the misconduct that has persisted for decades without repercussion.”
Wigdor added, "This case proved that change is long overdue, and we will continue to fight on behalf of survivors."
The criminal trial centered around allegations of "freak offs" or "hotel nights" — drug-fueled marathon sex encounters that often involved male prostitutes. Ventura and Jane, a woman who testified under the pseudonym, both claimed they felt pressured to participate in these acts to be in a relationship with Combs.
Combs' defense team admitted he had issues with violence but insisted all sexual acts were consensual and that he had a "swinger lifestyle." The jury ultimately did not find enough indisputable evidence to convict Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, acquitting him on those charges.
