Weaving a Yarn with Carole Makes
Each Saturday, WISH-TV highlights a local company in partnership with Indiana Grown. This week, we featured Carole Ricketts Corey and her mobile yarn store, Carole Makes.Corey's unique collection of jobs revolves around her yarn truck, which travels around Indiana and the nation. "I'm in New Jersey next week for the New Jersey Sheep and Wool Show," she explained, as her Angora bunny Piggy jumped excitedly at the mention of a road trip.Corey specializes in Angora-based yarns and raises Angora rabbits to create her products. "I wanted to have my own fiber source because I'm a spinner and I'm a weaver, and I've been crocheting and knitting for years. I thought, 'Oh, I'll get two (rabbits), that'll be fine,' because Angora rabbits are a fiber source, just like you would have sheep, llamas, or alpacas," she said.Corey also showcased her yarns, explaining the dyeing process and how the fibers can be blended with other animal fibers.
