Ceasefire Indy Celebrates 4th Annual Friendsgiving to Support the Community and Remember Ron Gee
INDIANAPOLIS — Ceasefire Indy held its fourth annual "Friendsgiving" on Saturday, a heartfelt event aimed at supporting the community while honoring the memory of its founder, Ron Gee, who was tragically shot and killed in July.
Ron Gee had a passion for serving those in need. He would personally prepare meals and invite individuals to join in the celebration ahead of Thanksgiving. “There may be somebody who won’t have a meal with their family or maybe not even have a Thanksgiving because they have to work or something, so this is a great opportunity for them to come out and have a nice meal,” said Whitney Frieson, Gee’s sister.
Frieson shared that her brother often went door-to-door seeking donations to help those less fortunate.
The tragic loss of Gee has left a void in the community, but his family and supporters are committed to continuing his legacy through events like "Friendsgiving." “Keeping his memory alive. Doing this event will help me get through the holidays to remember him,” Frieson reflected. “I have big shoes to fill because he was way more active in the community than I am, but I feel like I can try to fill those shoes.”
This year's gathering saw collaboration with the owner of Soul Food Shack, who generously opened her doors to host the event.
“His legacy will not die,” Frieson stated.
