Arrest Made in August Shooting at Shopping Center That Resulted in Deaths of Man and 3-Year-Old Child

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been arrested in connection with a double murder that occurred at a shopping center on the city's east side in late August.

William Paschall-Young, 22, is facing murder charges for the tragic deaths of Jaishawn Johnson, 22, and Armonie Booker, 3, on August 26. Medics and officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched shortly before 9:30 p.m. to investigate a shooting at the Shadeland Station Shopping Center located in the 7400 block of Shadeland Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Johnson and Booker suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. While Johnson succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Booker tragically passed away shortly after reaching the hospital.

As part of their investigation, detectives identified Paschall-Young as a suspect. Court documents reveal that Johnson had driven up to the liquor store within the shopping center when a woman exited the vehicle to enter the store. Surveillance footage captured Paschall-Young giving her an unsettling look suggesting familiarity.

Following this encounter, Paschall-Young exited the liquor store and opened fire on Johnson's car. The gunfire shattered glass and caused the vehicle to roll into another car before he fled in his own vehicle.

Authorities were able to identify Paschall-Young through surveillance footage and by victim identification from a previous incident involving him in May 2024. In that case, he was accused of assaulting multiple women at an apartment complex; during this confrontation, he fired upon a woman who was escaping with her child. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from that incident.

Following these events, Paschall-Young continued to harass his victims via text messages, threatening their lives.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office officially charged him with two counts of murder in September. He was apprehended by IMPD during a traffic stop on Sherman Drive this past Saturday.

This arrest marks a significant step toward justice for the families affected by this tragedy, including the innocent toddler whose life was senselessly cut short. The impact of this violent act continues to reverberate throughout our community and weigh heavily on the families of the victims.

I want to thank our detectives for their relentless pursuit of justice over the past three months, and I want to recognize the East District officer whose sharp instincts during a traffic stop led to this arrest. We will stand with the families as they continue to heal from this unimaginable loss, and we remain committed to seeking justice for those we have lost.

IMPD Chief Chris Bailey

Paschall-Young is currently being held without bond at Marion County jail and faces an additional charge related to dangerous possession of a firearm.
