Cool Conditions Settle Across Central Indiana This Week

Crisp overnights and mild afternoons are in store for central Indiana this week. Temperatures are running much cooler across most of the region, with many outlying areas falling into the low 50s and challenging some local records.

Today will be beautiful, with mostly sunny skies and below-average temperatures. There is a very slight chance of an isolated shower in the far northeastern corner of the state.

High temperatures will reach the low to mid-70s this afternoon.

Tonight, cool if not chilly temperatures are expected overnight. Lows will fall to the mid and upper 40s outside the Indy metro area and around 50 in the city. A few records may be challenged again across central Indiana, especially in outlying areas.

Seasonably cool temperatures are expected to continue for the second half of the week. Look for mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, light winds, and low humidity. Highs will reach the mid-70s on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

On Thursday, a weak upper-level wave will move through the northern portion of the state, which could produce a few spotty showers or a rumble of thunder late in the afternoon into the evening. Most areas will remain dry.

Labor Day weekend will bring high pressure overhead, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and relatively light winds all three days. Temperatures will start in the mid-70s on Saturday and could rise slightly on Sunday and Monday, approaching 80° as the holiday weekend wraps up.

Next week, there are some indications that temperatures may return to near-average levels by the middle of the week, but the overall trend is cooler-than-average conditions for much of the central United States as we head into September.
