Cool Temps Persist in Indiana, Record Lows Possible

Cool temperatures will persist in Indiana for much of this week, with record lows possible.

This morning, clear skies are expected to give way to partly to mostly cloudy conditions by afternoon as a weak upper-level wave moves through the region. While a few showers may be possible in northern parts of the state, central Indiana is expected to remain dry. Temperatures will be seasonably cool, running about 10°F below average with highs in the low to mid-70s this afternoon.

Tonight, mainly clear skies will allow for rapid radiational cooling overnight. Lows are likely to dip into the 40s in outlying areas and the lower 50s around the metro area.

In fact, the next couple of nights could approach record-low temperatures. The coolest morning is expected on Wednesday with a low of 50°F. The record low for that date is 49°F, set in 1927.

The rest of the week will bring beautiful weather, with temperatures holding steady in the mid-70s and mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies through the end of the week. Slightly warmer conditions are expected heading into the holiday weekend, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Humidity will remain low. There is a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm on Sunday and Monday, but there is some uncertainty regarding the likelihood of rain. Overall, rain prospects appear limited over the next 7 to 10 days.
