Fatal Crash Involving Drunk Driver and Police Officer Claims Life

A fatal crash involving a suspected drunk driver and a police officer claimed the life of a Kokomo woman on Wednesday night.The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at State Road 931 and Vaile Avenue in Kokomo, when a 2010 Ford passenger vehicle driven by 32-year-old Timmothy Bergesen drove into the path of a marked police car being driven by Kokomo Officer Jeremiah Wilson."I was just trying to avoid hitting them, but I couldn't avoid it," Wilson said. "I swerved and tried to get out of the way, but unfortunately, I hit the passenger side of the vehicle."Bergesen's 55-year-old mother, Vicky Hollingsworth, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bergesen suffered serious injuries.Wilson received minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital.State police investigators believe that Bergesen may have been driving under the influence of alcohol and are awaiting the results of a blood test taken at a local hospital before being transported to Indianapolis for further treatment.
