Fatal Stabbing Caught on Camera on Charlotte Light Rail

The fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee on a Charlotte Light Rail train has gained national attention, prompting comments from President Donald Trump. Iryna Zarutska was stabbed in an unprovoked attack on August 22, shortly after she boarded the train.

Zarutska's obituary stated that she was born in Kyiv but emigrated from Ukraine in 2022 with her mother, sister, and brother to escape the war. She quickly embraced her new life in the United States, according to her obituary.

A suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., has been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Surveillance video released by CATS shows the two had no interaction before the stabbing occurred.

In the video, Zarutska appears to board the train and sit in front of Brown with her back to him while she was looking down at her phone. Brown pulls out a pocket knife and toys with it in his hand before standing up and attacking her.

"I have seen the horrific video of a beautiful, young Ukrainian refugee, who came to America to escape the vicious War in Ukraine, and was innocently riding the Metro in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was brutally ambushed by a mentally deranged lunatic. What the hell was he doing riding the train, and walking the streets? Criminals like this need to be LOCKED UP." - President Trump

President Trump also criticized Democrats for not putting bad people in jail and called for "LAW AND ORDER" in North Carolina and every state.

The incident has sparked outrage and debates over safety on public transit systems, crime, and mental health. The tragic event led to a call for more police presence on trains and a push for stricter laws regarding crime and punishment.
