Officer Arrested for Official Misconduct and Harassment
An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officer has been arrested for official misconduct and harassment following an investigation.
The allegations against IMPD Officer Nicholas Cauley stemmed from concerns raised by his former spouse, which were referred to the IMPD Special Investigations Unit (SIU). According to court documents, SIU detectives found that Cauley repeatedly contacted his former spouse despite her numerous requests for him to stop. Additionally, while on duty and operating a police vehicle, Cauley drove to his former spouse's place of employment.
The investigation also revealed that at one point, Cauley used his law enforcement authority to look up his former spouse's license plate information.
On Friday, IMPD Violent Crimes Unit detectives arrested Cauley and he was preliminarily charged with two counts of official misconduct and harassment. He was taken to the Adult Detention Center for booking.
"The trust our community places in us is built on accountability and integrity," said IMPD Chief Chris Bailey. "When any officer violates that trust, it's our duty to act quickly and transparently. We are committed to working closely with the prosecutor to ensure this case is investigated appropriately."
