Officer Injured in Altercation with Beard-Yanking Individual

A police officer was injured while arresting a man who had allegedly yanked on someone's beard without provocation. The incident occurred in downtown Indianapolis on Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Robert Sanders Jr., 52, approached a person and pulled their beard for no apparent reason. An eyewitness confirmed this account.

Officers responded to the scene near Jackson Place and South Illinois Street after receiving reports of a man pacing back and forth while yelling at a hotel. When they arrived, Sanders was resistant to arrest, shouting at the officers and calling them "devils." A fight ensued, with multiple officers intervening to take Sanders into custody.

One officer suffered a broken fibula, the smaller bone in their lower leg, during the struggle. They were treated at the hospital and are expected to recover.
