Plane Crash Claims Life Near Greenwood Gas Station
A fatal plane crash occurred near a Greenwood, Indiana gas station on Wednesday morning, claiming the life of the pilot.
The crash happened at Main Street and South Park Boulevard, just off I-65. The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) confirmed that the pilot, Anh-Thu Nguyen, 44, from Miami, Florida, was killed in the incident.
"Initial reports indicated that a small plane had crashed behind the Circle K gas station at 1183 E. Main Street in Greenwood," said GFD public information officer Tyler Swardson. "Upon arrival, firefighters found a small aircraft that had gone down directly behind the gas station. The pilot, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene."
The plane, which was a small 2-4 passenger plane with only one occupant at the time of the crash, was not affiliated with any local airport, according to GFD. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
This is the second plane crash in the same area this year. In May, two people survived a passenger plane crash with only minor injuries.
