Anthony Richardson's Mindset Amidst the Colts QB Decision
Anthony Richardson Sr. has been vying for the Colts starting quarterback job alongside Daniel Jones throughout the offseason.
As the competition nears its end, Coach Shane Steichen stated after a recent preseason game against the Packers that he's "very close" to making a decision.
When asked what he's done to make his case for being the starting quarterback, Richardson replied that at the end of the day, it's up to the coaching staff, but he's focused on keeping improving.
"I feel like I've been trying to put my best foot forward, trying to grow each and every step of the way," Richardson said. "I feel like I've been doing a decent job and improving, but at the end of the day, I just want to keep improving."
He added, "If I do win the job, thank God. If not, I need to keep working."
Richardson played in three drives against the Packers, completing six of his 11 passes for 73 yards.
In a notable performance, he led the Colts on a 90-yard touchdown drive in his first drive of the game.
What may have been Richardson's best throw of the day didn't show up in his stat line – he threw a deep ball that Anthony Gould caught in-stride over his shoulder for a 38-yard gain, but the play was called back due to AD Mitchell being offsides.
"I've just been trying to make sure I'm at the best of my ability so when Week 1 does pop up and show up, and if I am the guy, if I'm not the guy, I'm ready for anything that comes to me," Richardson said. "They'll make a decision whenever they do. I'm not too worried about it. Honestly, I'm just trying to make sure I'm at the best of my ability for the season."
The Colts have one more preseason game scheduled, traveling to Cincinnati to face the Bengals on August 23.
