Colts Name Daniel Jones Starting QB for Season
Colts head coach Shane Steichen has named Daniel Jones as the team's starting quarterback for the season. Jones was in a competitive situation with Anthony Richardson Sr. throughout the offseason and training camp, but ultimately earned the top spot.
"You guys heard me talk about consistency, and that's really what I was looking for," Steichen said on the decision to make Jones the starting quarterback.
Steichen explained that he wanted to give the team clarity at the quarterback position before their first game. "We got three weeks before our first game and I think it's fair to the team that they know who their starting quarterback is going to be and they get those reps this week in practice and the following week and getting into game week so there's just clarity at that position," he said.
Jones played his first six seasons with the New York Giants, starting 10 games in 2024. He threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The Colts signed him to a 1-year, $14 million contract in the offseason.
The Colts will kick off their season in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins at Lucas Oil Stadium at 1 p.m.
