Colts' Quarterback Competition Update Shared by Steichen

The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up training camp with a joint practice against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. The main storyline throughout camp has been the open quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen remained consistent in his stance, stating that there is still no timeline for deciding who will be the team's starting quarterback.

"I don't have an exact timetable on it, but sooner than later would be nice."

The Colts will face the Packers in their second preseason game on Saturday. Steichen plans to play both Richardson and Jones, with Jones starting and playing the first few drives, followed by Richardson playing the remainder of the first half.

"I want to see how this thing plays out on Saturday, and then we'll see early in the next week and see where it goes."

Steichen expressed his pleasure with both quarterbacks' performances, stating that a decision will be made when necessary. He also noted that he will have conversations with team owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon and general manager Chris Ballard to finalize the selection.

"Obviously it's a big decision that's got to be made. And we'll work through it. And I'll have discussions with (Carlie Irsay-Gordon) and (Chris Ballard), and we'll work through it here soon."

Steichen also addressed the team's performance during the joint practice, noting that they struggled with penalties but overall showed improvement.

"There was some good. I didn't think it was all bad."

The Colts' head coach expressed his satisfaction with the team's overall progress heading into their second preseason game on Saturday.

"I really like where our football team's at going into the second preseason game."
