Colts' Week 1 Victory: Inspiring Quotes to Remember
The Colts got their first win in Week 1 since 2013, dominating the Dolphins and winning 33-8 on Sunday.
Here are eight must-read quotes from the Colts victory:
1. Shane Steichen on Daniel Jones' Colts debut"It was huge. Like I said, we want to stay on schedule and complete balls… Yeah, he played good ball. We've got to continue that every week. It's one week at a time. But that's the preparation he puts in. He was ready to roll and guys went out there and made plays for him."
Daniel Jones was 22-for-29 passing for 272 yards and a touchdown in his Colts debut. He added 26 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground.
2. Daniel Jones on the team's mentality after the win"Yeah, it felt good to get a win for sure. Thought we played well and the team played well. I think I've learned over the years – it's a long season, 17-game season, and you've got to play at a high level for the whole time. So, good start. I think we feel good about the start for sure. Some things to clean up and work on, but I think everyone on our team is mature enough, knows enough that we've got to continue to grow and improve. The best teams in the league continue to build on success and improve, and it's about what you're able to sustain through the course of the season. So, I think that's the mindset of our group now."
3. Michael Pittman Jr. on Daniel Jones' Colts debut"Danny (Daniel Jones) went out there and crushed it today. I'm not sure it could have went better. Offense, I felt like we were rolling, and he just threw a great pass, and the rest is history, I guess."
Pittman had six catches for 80 yards in a touchdown in the win.
4. Shane Steichen on Tyler Warren's first NFL game"It's impressive. I thought the first play, the one we just talked about hitting him down the boundary, but then that third down right there with about six minutes left making a guy miss, and then running a guy over, or two guys over, whatever he did. Just the physicality, he's an old-school, throwback baller is what he is."
Warren had seven catches for 76 yards in his first NFL game.
5. Cam Bynum on his celebration after his interception"I don't know what that was. It's just a random thing. There's no context to it. I just saw it somewhere and I tried it. And I was like, 'Oh I can still do it.' It was one of those things where it was just, I blacked out and just went and did the most random thing I could think of. But it was fun."
Bynum intercepted Tua Tagovailoa in the Dolphins' first drive of the game.
6. Charvarius Ward on the message the Colts defense sent to the NFL"It's new sheriffs in town. New big dogs in town. Lou (Anarumo) came in and kind of changed the scheme and got some new players, me, Cam (Bynum), and a couple more guys. We turnt up and had a great game."
7. Shane Steichen on giving the Irsay daughters a game ball"I just kind of talked about what their dad meant to this organization. Kind of just hit on it a little bit. Then just him raising those three daughters and doing it the right way, and setting them up for a moment to take over this team. I thought it was just really special and really fitting for them being full-time owners now to get a game ball. It was pretty special in there."
8. Kenny Moore II on Jim Irsay's legacy"He's done a great job raising them (his daughters) to be able to put them in a position to continue the legacy."
The Colts take on the Denver Broncos next Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:05 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.
