Richardson's Back Injury Struggles Left Him Unable to Stand
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson missed Sunday's loss against the Giants due to a back injury. Earlier in the week, Colts head coach Shane Steichen described the injury as soreness, later clarifying that Richardson was dealing with bad back spasms.
Richardson clarified the injury himself on Wednesday, stating he was dealing with lower back issues. He recalled having a tough time last week, saying he "couldn't even stand up on Tuesday" and could barely walk or move around his house.
"Last week was tough," Richardson said. "I couldn’t even stand up on Tuesday. Could barely even walk, you know, crawling around the house."
He added that it's a tough league and players need to be able to play through injuries. While he has dealt with back spasms since eighth grade, this injury was more severe than usual.
"It was definitely a little scary last week not being able to move," Richardson said.
Richardson got an MRI on his back, which revealed it's a disc issue that had been present for some time but was triggered the wrong way last week. He initially thought it was just muscle tightness and never viewed it as a major problem in the past.
The Colts are waiting to see how Richardson progresses with his rehab before determining if he'll be available on Sunday against the Jaguars. As of now, he's listed as did not participate on the injury report.
