Tony Dungy's Bond with Daniel Jones

Tony Dungy, former Colts head coach, has a special bond with quarterback Daniel Jones. The two built their relationship last season, and Dungy was optimistic about Jones' performance before his Colts debut on Sunday.

“I’m really excited,” Dungy said. “I think he’s going to bring some things to the table that Colts fans are going to be surprised.”

Jones impressed in his first game with the Colts, leading the team to a dominant win over the Miami Dolphins. He completed 22 of his 29 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown, and also added on 26 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

“I actually met him last year,” Dungy said. “We were doing the Cincinnati (Bengals)-(New York) Giants game. He was getting a lot of heat from the New York media, and we talked during the pregame warmup. And then he ended up in Minnesota. Of course, with my background with the Vikings, I ended up connecting with him and we’ve been in touch with each other throughout the last season and this offseason.”

Jones did something that Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck had never done as Colts quarterbacks on Sunday - leading the team to score on every offensive possession of the game.

The Colts will try to continue their momentum from the dominant Week 1 victory when they take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.
