Traffic Citations for Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Dismissed Due to Officers' Absence at Hearing

Traffic citations issued to Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill following a September incident with police have been dismissed due to the absence of the charging officers at a court hearing.

Hill faced tickets for careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt after being stopped outside Hard Rock Stadium for allegedly speeding before the Dolphins' season opener on September 8. During the stop, tensions escalated, leading to officers pulling Hill from his car, forcing him to the ground, and handcuffing him.

In response to the dismissal, Hill posted on social media: “Where all the internet cops now.”

The Miami-Dade Police explained that the officers' failure to appear at the hearing was an “oversight” and stated that “the matter will be handled administratively.” Despite this, they defended their decision to issue Hill citations.

“A citation dismissed due to this reason does not indicate that the citation held no merit,” said the agency in a statement.

Body camera footage from the September stop revealed that Hill sped past two motorcycle officers monitoring traffic outside the stadium. Upon being pulled over, he handed over his driver's license but expressed irritation by saying, “Don’t knock on my window like that," before rolling it back up.

The situation escalated into a verbal exchange, resulting in officers forcibly removing Hill from his vehicle and pinning him face-first to the ground. While officers used foul language towards him, Hill did not resist or retaliate; he simply responded with, “Don’t tell me what to do.”

After some time on the ground, he was eventually assisted into a sitting position on the curb despite mentioning difficulties due to a knee injury. After approximately 30 minutes of interaction with law enforcement, citations were issued and he was permitted entry into the stadium.

Following this incident, one officer has been placed on administrative duty while an internal affairs investigation is underway; however, no findings have been disclosed as of yet.
