Discovering Local Flavors at Fort Ben Farmers Market
The Fort Ben Farmers Market, located in the heart of Lawrence at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Cultural Campus, was the latest stop on our summer tour. Anchors Faran Fronczak and Phil Sanchez visited the market on a sunny Thursday afternoon to highlight the local charm and community spirit.
From farm-fresh produce to musical swings, the event showcased what makes this northeast Marion County suburb unique. Throughout the show, we welcomed engaging guests, including an 8-year-old fan who shared that WISH-TV was the reason he attended the market.
The afternoon celebration honored Lawrence's history, energy, and spirit. We spotlighted hidden gems and community traditions, making it a true celebration of all things Lawrence.
“We like to bring the Riverdog party,” Nick said. “If you’re dancing, you’re getting beads.”
Helping Hands, a longtime friend of the show, returned to the market sharing free resources and spreading awareness about their non-medical home health services. Javon and D shared their mission to keep seniors in their homes with assistance ranging from transportation and skilled nursing to meal prep and cleaning.
Mississippi Raglips & the Riverdogs brought their signature blues sound to the market, getting the crowd dancing and the band jamming. Frontman Nick kept the party going with solos and energy to spare. The band is a local favorite and will return for Blues Fest on September 13.
A&E Half Marathon Set for October: Beyond Monumental's CEO, Jed Cornforth, shared details on the 30th-anniversary celebration of the A&E Half Marathon at Fort Ben, which includes a 10K and 5K. The event will take place on October 4, with proceeds benefiting Lawrence Township Schools.
