Indy Parks Unveils Largest Playground at Expanded Grassy Creek Park

INDIANAPOLIS — The far east side of Indy now has a relaxing community asset with the expanded Grassy Creek Park, which is now open after two years of construction.

The new park features a community center and play area alongside a vast natural environment. Indy Parks calls it an "environmental community center," one of only four in the city.

"It's like Eagle Creek Park, Holliday Park, and Southeastway Park," said Alex Cortwright of Indy Parks. "It really provides multiple ways to play and learn. You may start coming here as a little kid and play on the playground to identify nature features, then you may come here for summer camp and identify the nature in real life."

Cortwright also noted that the new Grassy Creek playground is the largest in the Indy Parks system.

Neighbors around the park are thrilled with the addition. Albert Velez said, "It's actually pretty good that they're actually making our community look better, more than it has before." Keyshawn Williams added, "It's nice seeing them trying to do something nice around this side of town."

Quincy Bright believes the new park can be a peaceful haven for children in his community. He said, "I'm a home-based case management worker, so I work with a lot of kids in the community. I'll definitely be using this as one of my tools." Cortwright hopes everyone in Indianapolis will check out the new Grassy Creek Park at least once, saying it's a "quality of life boost" that offers opportunities for engaging with nature and fun for kids.
